Nigerian boxer Oguncimilor temporarily suspended

Nigerian boxer Cynthia Temitayo Ogunsimilor has been suspended from the Paris Olympics for violating anti-doping rules, the International Testing Agency (ITA) reported.

The agency, which operates under the cover of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), said in a statement that the boxing sample "showed negative analytical results for the banned substance identified furosemide".

Furosemide is classified as "diuretics and masking substances" by the IAEA, it said.

The sample was taken in Paris on Thursday, the day before the opening ceremony, and was reported by a WADA-accredited laboratory on Saturday.

"The athlete has been informed of the case and temporarily suspended until the matter is resolved, meaning that the athlete is banned from competing, training, training or participating in any activity during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games," the agency said.

Nigerian boxing was due to kick off its under-60kg Olympic adventure on Monday.

Oguncimilor became the third active case in the current Olympic edition, as ITA announced on Friday that Iraqi judoka Sajjad Ghanem tested positive for banned doping, and Dominican volleyball player Lisville Yves Mejia tested positive for Furosemide.
